Pine: One of the Best Herbs for Processing Grief
It’s grief season again when all the feels come up and the year's losses become more palpable and clear.
As a clinical herbalist with over 15 years of experience, I have found Pine to be a very helpful herb in processing grief.
Pine opens the lungs and airways as a bronchodilator thanks to alpha-pinene and other volatile oils.
This can help us take a deep breath and begin to reach into the darker spaces inside the heart, lungs, and chest.
Pine also has anxiolytic and anti-depressant qualities, so it can help lift and ground us while we dive into these pools of grief.
My favorite way to use pine is to steam it on the stovetop in a large pot of water.
Just take some boughs or branches and place them in hot water and keep the temperature low enough, so it steams without boiling.
Refill the pot with water every few hours.
You can pour this Pine tea into a mug and drink it. Pine is high in Vitamin C and will reach right into the heart with its evergreen wisdom.
Grief is hard to bear alone, so call in this evergreen plant friend (isn’t that a wonderful image to hold during loss, the evergreen spirit?) to support you this holiday season 🌲
